Be Still and Know I Am God

Blue whales, lots of them, are what we expected to see. A thin layer of fog stubbornly hugged the surface of the Pacific Ocean, not wanting to lift for us to see this unusual migration taking place along the California coast. Grey whales - yes, but not Blue whales, three times their size, are not common in such numbers. There have been sightings of up to 30 of these whales a day!

Amazing, isn't it, that nature has been programed to follow the pattern that the Creator has planned. If there is a diversion, it's for a good reason.....sooner or later the mystery of these Blue whales will be revealed. Whales move from the cold Alaskan waters to the warmer waters of Baja, Mexico to birth their young at this time of year. A few years ago son Steve went down to the area, sat in a small boat and waited for the baby whales to come alongside to be petted and loved by humans humbled by this privilege. This is an experience he'll never forget.

December through March, the migration will be back to Alaskan waters for the summer. We will again take note of these magnificent creatures who spout and raise a flipper as if to wave good-by to those who gather along the shore to watch the parade. Somehow there is a peace that flows over us. The verse that comes to my mind is......Psalm 46:10

"Be still, and know I am God"

We were in Palos Verdes, a beautiful peninsula off the coast of Los Angeles where our daughter and son-in-law live. We'd driven them to LAX the day before so they could board a flight to Rome. The next day we met old friends at Point Vicente Interpretive Center, where we enjoyed the small museum detailing the history of whales in the area.

We humans worry. Just look at the plant and animal life; they live and die with an innate faith. God wants His children to live the same way - trusting - not worrying! The Lord makes His point so clearly in Matthew 6:25 - 34..........to paraphrase,

'Do not worry about your life or what you will eat, look at the birds, the Father feeds them, aren't you much more valuable? He clothes the lilies of the field, which are here today and then thrown into the fire....O you of little faith! Your heavenly Father knows what you need. Seek His kingdom first, and His righteousness (Jesus) and all these things will be given to you. Don't worry about tomorrow, each day has enough trouble of its own.'

I think most of us have found that out....each day has enough trouble of its own! The Lord has never promised to give you everything you want. He loves you too much to do that. We often want the very thing that is not good for us! But He does promise to be faithful in supplying what He knows we need. Times have been rough for a lot of people, not just in our country, but others as well. If we keep our focus on a heavenly Father who loves us and see through 'eyes of faith' rather than buying into the fear of unbelievers who've put their faith in all the wrong things, we will have peace and be able to sleep very well each night. Amen? God is able to keep His promises. Philippians 4:4 - 7

'Rejoice in the Lord always! Be gentle, the Lord is near. DO NOT BE ANXIOUS ABOUT ANYTHING, PRESENT YOUR PRAYERS TO GOD. You will experience the 'peace of God' which transcends all understanding'.

Usually we stop there, but the Living Word highlighted the next passage for me today that ends in Vs. 9 "Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me - put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you."

There comes a time that we need to apply what we are learning. We can't arrange the world according to our liking, but if you know that God's hand is in everything, you can leave everything in God's hands.

Lord I thank you that it is your desire for your children to walk in peace trusting you. I ask the Holy Spirit to enable me to be still and know that you are God.
