A Run Away Heart

My husband's words to me, "I had a run away heart!" Last Saturday morning, 7:30, my husband felt pain in his chest and begin to perspire - not good. I called 911 and a team of young men, who looked like the Chargers football team offensive line, came through the door, went through their 'check list', then took him to the ER of our local hospital. His heart rate was very rapid, dangerously so. They 'zapped' the heart into a normal rhythm, then checked him into the hospital for further testing which revealed a couple of clogged arteries. Two stents were inserted to hold the arteries open. But, we weren't done yet! He is now the proud owner of a pace maker/defibrillator device, 'just in case his heart decides to act up again' said the doctor. The Lord still has plans for my husband, and I'm glad as I like having him around and we are grateful for more years together. The photo here was taken of my 'beach boy' in June.

Neither of us had any fear during this cardiac event; we know the One who is in charge of life and death. Van, my husband, often wears a baseball cap that says, 'Relax, God is in Control'. Amen! Job wrote, chapter 14.......

"Man's days are determined; you (God) have decreed the number of his months
set limits he cannot exceed". vs 5

David wrote in Psalm 139.....

"All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be." vs. 16

We can trust the Lord. He has a plan, and even though it may not always look like it, it's perfect. It is after all, HIS plan. God's ways can always be trusted, but sometimes can't be explained.

It's been pointed out to me, that my last post, written two days prior to the 'event', had a touch of prophesy and the Lord was preparing me by pointing out that 'life can change in a heart beat', with no warning. It's like God was punctuating my last blog with this event...."See He said, know that this is true!" Within a few hours, we went from a day at the beach to a tense situation in an emergency room.

We had taken our Min-Min, Tiny Tim and our son's Cairn Terrier, Abby, down to the beach. We enjoyed all that is a Southern California Beach that day. Sun illuminated the waves as they ran on shore to the delight and squeals of young children. People walked and jogged, many with their dog, breathing in the saltiness of the air. Peace is everywhere! We had lunch on a patio, our dogs beneath our feet.....patiently waiting for a morsel or two of food to drop by their nose. The waitress even brought out a dish of water for them.

Life does change, unpleasantly sometimes. We all experience the woes of being human. There is no reason for a believer to panic, or fear. We don't put our trust in one another, or the medical team, or anything tangible, but by faith, we trust God to always work out His perfect plan. Faith is a gift (Eph. 2:8) and is defined this way in HEBREWS 11:1

"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see."

We can't just decide to have faith, but we can know where it comes from and can count on God to supply all that we need in any situation.

"Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith....." Hebrew 12:2.

Thank you Lord for covering us with your love and grace so we can always walk in peace without fear. We can trust you and we know that YOU are in control. I'm grateful that Van is home and feeling good except for some soreness in his left shoulder......no tennis for a month!

"By wisdom the Lord laid the earth's foundations, by understanding he set the heavens in place;
by his knowledge the deeps were divided, and the clouds let drop the dew." Proverbs 3: 19 - 20.

I encourage you all to take out your Bible, look up these wonderful verses, make them YOUR OWN, underline them, write them on 3x5 cards and put them where you'll see them. Come to know these truths, and life will always give you joy.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."
PROVERS 3: 5- 6
