Living with uncertainty, is a certainty!
I've been a member of a creative writing class for several years. People come and go, but there remains a core group who show up at the beginning of each semester. None of us are young, and some are quite old and have had many 'life experiences'. Our teacher also teaches at San Diego State and has been faithful to come back every semester. In one form or another, we are all writing our own story. We've come to know each other through our story telling. We may critique the writing, but we never judge a life.
One thing that stands out to me is how uncertain life appears to be. We plan our way, design a route, and set out to travel the road.....never sure where it may take us. Inevitably there are twists and turns we never would have planned and didn't anticipate. Life then becomes a matter of finding a new path, sometimes giving up old dreams and heading in a different direction.
Change often makes us insecure. We seek stability, and take comfort in knowing that some things are 'absolute'. Blessings may not come packaged in the way we expected. As a child of God, one who has come to know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, we can have great peace. The world situation, economic crises, lost jobs, poor health, and a variety of other circumstances are very real concerns. We live in uncertain times. Haven't times, all through history, always been 'uncertain'? Yes I think so, and maybe this is why we crave certainty!
I think of the words of an old hymn...'on solid ground I stand, all else is sinking sand'. So where is that solid ground we seek.....In Christ alone. If we look elsewhere, we'll be frustrated and disappointed. And you see many believers walking around frustrated with their life and disappointed in the path they took. It helps to look at ourselves from God's perspective and know that there are some absolute truths we can count on! We can be certain of these things......
FROM GOD'S PERSPECTIVE…….YOU ARE ALWAYS
LOVED…..Romans 8: 37 – 39 - Nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
RIGHTEOUS…..Philippians 3:9 - Righteousness comes from God, and is by faith in Jesus Christ.
PERFECT (in His eyes)……Ephesians 1:4 – H chose us before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless. Hebrews 10:14 - By one sacrifice, He has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.
FORGIVEN…..Colossians 2: 13 – 14 - He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code with all its regulations, He took it away, nailing it to the cross.
WITHOUT SHAME…..Romans 10:11 - Anyone who trusts in Him will never be put to shame.
Psalm 34:5, Those who look to Him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.
ACCEPTED…...John 1:12 - I am God's child. Hebrews 4: 14 – 16, I have direct access to the 'throne of grace' through Jesus.
SECURE….. II Corinthians 21 – 22 – God makes us stand firm in Christ, He anointed us, set His seal of ownership on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
IN HIS WILL…..John 15:16 – I have been chosen and appointed to bear fruit.
Romans 8:30 – The Spirit intercedes for the Saints in accordance with God's will.
Ephesians 1:11 – God works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come!"
II Corinthians 5:17

Thank you Lord that in YOU, there is certainty.
